Rail Delivery Group partnered with Velociti Solutions to develop a one-stop online microsite for The Rail Sale.
The Rail Sale launched on January 14 and ran until January 20, 2025, offering discounts of up to 50% on advance and off-peak rail tickets for travel scheduled between January 17 and March 31, 2025. Most passenger rail operators, including ScotRail, Transport for Wales (TfW) and third party retailers, participated in this year’s sale. To simplify the ticket purchasing process for passengers, Velociti Solutions worked with Rail Delivery Group to develop a tailored website that exclusively displayed discounted fares.
Velociti collaborated with all participating operators to gather data on discounted fares and routes, integrating the information into a custom-built engine that powered the website. The user-friendly interface allowed passengers to enter their desired journey, and the site then showcased all locations where discounted tickets could be purchased, providing direct links for easy access. The goal of the website was to ease the ticket-buying process for passengers, eliminating the need to sift through multiple websites to find deals.
Rachel Bartholomeusz, Head of Propositions at Rail Delivery Group, said, “It’s been a pleasure working with Velociti Solutions on this project. We sincerely appreciate their efforts and responsiveness in bringing the website to life. We face refinements and challenges with each Rail Sale, and Velociti has consistently demonstrated friendly professionalism throughout.”
Sean Twycross, Head of Service Delivery at Velociti Solutions, commented, “We’re thrilled to be the trusted partners of Rail Delivery Group in developing this specialised software that consolidated all discounted fares into a single location, making ticket purchasing significantly simpler for passengers. This is the second year we have worked on this project, and we look forward to supporting RDG in the future.
“The Rail Sale is an excellent initiative to encourage more people to use rail, and last year’s sale led to an additional 440,000 journeys. This year, the sale was even bigger and better and we’re looking forward to seeing the positive results.”
